Getting There

Birnin Konni sits on the main east-west highway (RN1) linking Niamey to Zinder, and is also on the north-south route from Agadez down to the Nigerian border. This crossroads position means that almost all long-distance bush taxis crossing southern Niger pass through town. You can usually pick up onward transport to Niamey (about 375 km west), Zinder (about 500 km east), Tahoua (about 125 km north), or the Nigerian border within a few hours.

Bush taxis and trucks depart from the gare routière near the market. For Niamey, the journey takes five to seven hours depending on the vehicle; shared minibuses are faster than the older 504s that are slowly being replaced. Cross-border transport to Sokoto in northern Nigeria is also available, though you will need to arrange Nigerian entry visas in advance if required.
