Getting around Benin City is surprisingly manageable despite the poor road surfaces. The city is sprawling but most points of interest cluster around Ring Road and King's Square.
Buses run throughout the city center and suburbs. There are no fixed stops — you flag the bus down and tell the driver when you want to get off. It is the cheapest option. Taxis are plentiful and easy to find at major terminals. Official taxis are painted deep red with bright yellow roofs. Agree on a fare before you get in. Motorcycle taxis (okadas) are another option for shorter trips, though their use is banned between 7 pm and 6 am. If you are arriving by bus or plane, taxis wait at all major terminals.
