Hong Hills

The Hong Hills are the collective name for the granite inselbergs and rocky outcrops that rise abruptly from the savanna plains around Hong town. These massive rounded boulders — some standing hundreds of metres above the surrounding farmland — are the defining feature of the landscape in this part of Adamawa State.

For those willing to make the effort, the hills offer good hiking and panoramic views across the savanna toward Cameroon. The terrain is rugged and trails are informal; local guides can be arranged in town. The area is home to the Kilba people, and the hills have cultural significance as well as scenic interest. The best light for photography is in the early morning and late afternoon, when the granite catches warm colour.
