Andoni Elephants Reserve

A reserve among the Niger Delta barrier islands southeast of Port Harcourt, in the Obolo (Andoni) area. It protects one of the last remaining populations of forest elephants in the region and stretches along roughly 20 miles of beach — a long, empty shoreline that lends itself to low-key ecotourism rather than polished safari.

Getting there is part of the experience: it is a journey through creeks and island communities, not a quick drive. Conditions are basic, but for travellers already in Rivers State who want to see a side of the Delta most visitors miss, it is the obvious trip.
