Musanze is about 105 kilometres north of Kigali on a well-maintained paved road; the drive takes two to two and a half hours by private vehicle or taxi. Minibus taxis (matatus) connect Musanze to Kigali's main bus station regularly throughout the day and take about two and a half to three hours; they are cheap and reliable. Most gorilla trekkers arrange a car transfer through their accommodation or a tour operator. There is no commercial air service to Musanze; the nearest airport is Kigali International.
