The community reserve covers more than 10,000 hectares east of Palmarin, where mangrove channels, salt flats, grassland, forest, and village land meet the wider Saloum Delta. It is the strongest reason to come here rather than treating the coast as a place to sit still.
Guided visits can focus on birds, mangroves, salt pans, shell mounds, or the work of local eco-guards. Wildlife includes hyenas, jackals, reptiles, dolphins offshore, and a wide range of resident and migratory birds. The reserve is also a cultural landscape, so go with a guide who can explain how conservation, fishing, salt, cattle, and village life fit together.
