Salt Pools

East of the villages, shallow evaporation pools fill with tidal and seasonal water, then dry into rings of salt. In the dry season the pools can take on pale pink, green, and white tones, and the work of harvesting them is one of the clearest everyday links between Palmarin and the delta.

This is not a formal monument. It is a working landscape, so visit with a local guide or as part of a reserve outing, and buy salt locally if you want a small souvenir that actually belongs to the place.
