Guet N'Dar is the fishing neighbourhood on the Langue de Barbarie peninsula, separated from the island by a narrow channel. This is one of the most densely populated places in Senegal — a tightly packed community of fishermen and their families living in a strip of sand barely a few hundred metres wide. The beach here is extraordinary: hundreds of brightly painted pirogues hauled up above the tideline, nets spread out to dry, and teams of men working the boats in and out of heavy Atlantic surf. Come in the early morning when the catch is being landed.
