Tokeh Beach

Long white-sand crescent with the best mid-range lodges on the peninsula

A long crescent of soft white sand backed by the green wall of the peninsula hills. Tokeh has the most developed beach lodges on the coast — Tokeh Sands and The Place are the two best known — and is the easiest place to stay overnight south of Freetown.

The water shelves gently and is good for swimming, and the village fishermen drag in their wooden boats along the same beach every afternoon. The combination of working fishing village and tidy beach bar is exactly the Sierra Leone the country is trying to sell, and on a calm Sunday it is hard to argue with.
