Bossaso port is the commercial heart of the city and the main gateway for goods entering Puntland. The harbour is sheltered by a natural bay, and trade activity peaks in the early morning and late afternoon when vessels arrive from and depart for Yemen, Djibouti, and ports along the Somali coast.
The port area gives the clearest picture of how Bossaso functions as a regional hub. Money-changers, traders, and transport operators cluster around the dock gates. The informal market at the port entrance sells goods that have arrived directly from the Arabian Peninsula — electronics, textiles, and foodstuffs — at prices that reflect the port's role as a direct import channel. Visitors should exercise standard security awareness and avoid the area after dark.
