Abdullahi Yusuf Airport

Abdullahi Yusuf Airport (IATA: GLK) is the main gateway to Galkayo, named for Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, the founder of Puntland and later transitional President of Somalia, who was from the Mudug region. The airport handles flights from Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Bosasso, and occasionally other regional cities via carriers such as Jubba Airways and African Express Airways.

The airport is located a few kilometres east of the city centre and serves as the most practical entry point for any traveller trying to reach Galkayo. Road access from Mogadishu or Bosasso is long, difficult, and passes through areas of active insecurity.

For travellers transiting through Galkayo between the south and north of Somalia, the airport is usually the safest and most practical option. Seat availability on short notice can be limited; book ahead when possible.
