The Big Pineapple is Bathurst's wonderfully blunt landmark: a pineapple-shaped building standing above the surrounding farms on the R67. Inside are small displays on the local pineapple industry, with views from the top over the green Eastern Cape countryside.
It is kitsch, but not empty kitsch. Pineapples helped define farming around Bathurst, and the building turns that local crop into something you will remember after many prettier viewpoints have blurred together.
