A story
The Dutch Reformed Moederkerk (Mother Church) of George was built in 1842 and is one of the most distinctive church buildings in the Western Cape. The building is constructed from local bluestone in a simplified Baroque style, with a whitewashed interior that is more austere than its exterior suggests. The church is still an active congregation and the surrounding churchyard contains some of the oldest graves in George, several dating from the first decade of the 19th century.
