Hout Bay Museum

The Hout Bay Museum on Andrews Road covers the history of the bay and valley from the indigenous Khoikhoi inhabitants through the Dutch East India Company's use of the area as a timber source, the development of the fishing industry, and the town's growth as a suburb of Cape Town. The collection is modest in scale but well curated, and the context it provides — particularly on the Khoikhoi and on the fishing community's history — is worth the short visit.

The museum building itself, a nineteenth-century building set in a small garden, is one of the older structures in the valley. Entry is inexpensive and the staff are knowledgeable.
