Bontebok National Park

Small national park protecting bontebok antelope beside the Breede River.

Bontebok National Park is small by South African standards, but it has a clear purpose: protecting the bontebok, the handsome antelope that came close to disappearing. The park sits just outside Swellendam, where the Breede River, open plains, and Langeberg backdrop make it an easy nature stop.

Do not come expecting a big-five safari. Come for a quiet drive, short walks, birdlife, river scenery, and a good chance of seeing bontebok without spending half a day in transit.
