Marloth Nature Reserve rises directly above Swellendam into the Langeberg mountains. It is the place to go when the town's Cape Dutch calm starts to feel too tidy: trails climb into fynbos, forested kloofs, and higher ground with long views back over the Overberg.
Choose your walk carefully, because the mountain routes can be much more serious than they look from town. Even a shorter outing gives Swellendam a strong outdoor edge and makes the town feel tied to the landscape behind it.
