Orlando Towers

The Orlando Towers are two decommissioned cooling towers from the old Orlando Power Station, now converted into an adventure activity centre. You can bungee jump from the top (100 metres, one of the higher urban bungee jumps in the world), abseil down the outside, or simply pay to climb to the viewing platform for a panorama over Soweto.

The towers' exterior is painted with a vivid mural of the bungee jump itself, making them an unmistakable landmark visible from much of the surrounding area. They sit near Orlando Stadium, where Soweto's beloved football clubs — Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs — play their home games. The combination of the towers, the stadium, and the active street life of the neighbourhood makes this end of Soweto worth a visit even if you skip the jump.

A story
The two cooling towers were built in the 1930s to service the Orlando Power Station and loomed over Soweto as functional structures for decades. After the power station was decommissioned, they became improbable canvases: artists painted the exterior with a vivid mural of a man bungee jumping, accurately predicting what the towers would become. The bungee jump from the top is 100 metres.
