Blue Mine

Historic copper mine site marking the start of commercial mining around Springbok.

The Blue Mine is where Springbok's copper story becomes visible. Copper was first found in the wider area in the seventeenth century, but this site is tied to the commercial mining that reshaped the town from the 1850s onward.

The blue-green stain in the rock comes from copper minerals reacting with air. It is a short, rough-edged stop rather than a full museum, but it explains why a town grew in this dry valley and why the surrounding district still carries so many mining names.
