Goegap Nature Reserve

Semi-desert reserve east of Springbok, known for wildflowers, succulents, trails, and wildlife.

Goegap Nature Reserve is Springbok's best reason to stop. In a good spring it becomes a Namaqualand flower show, with bright annuals spread across country that looked nearly lifeless a few weeks earlier. The Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden inside the reserve gives you a concentrated look at the succulents and rock-garden plants of the region.

The reserve is not only for flower season. Tracks and trails cross semi-desert plains, granite hills, and dry gullies, with mountain biking, hiking, ordinary car loops, and rougher 4x4 routes. Watch for gemsbok, springbok, klipspringer, birds of prey, and the small desert life that rewards slow looking.
