The Msasani Peninsula juts north from Oyster Bay into the bay of the same name, a wedge of land covered in older suburban villas and newer apartment blocks. It is where most short-term visitors stay — the Slipway and Sea Cliff hotel complexes are both here, along with the largest concentration of bars and restaurants outside the city centre.
Most of the peninsula is built for cars; the harbour-side promenade at the Slipway is the only proper place to walk. Sunsets from the western shore — over the dhow harbour where local fishermen still moor their boats — are the standard end-of-day diversion. A water taxi service runs from the Slipway to Bongoyo Island and a few of the smaller bays around the peninsula.
