St Eugene's Convent and Lushoto Lutheran Church

Lushoto was a German colonial hill station under the name Wilhelmstal, and the small Lutheran church on the main street is a survival from that era: a stone-and-timber building with steeply pitched roof and round-arched windows, looking transplanted from Saxony.

A short walk away, the Roman Catholic St Eugene's Convent runs a guesthouse and is known regionally for its homemade cheese and yoghurt — sold over the counter from the dairy at the back. It is the closest thing Lushoto has to a tourist office for the convent's adjacent network of walking trails.
