Uluguru Mountains

Forested Eastern Arc mountain range rising just south of Morogoro, with village walks and day hikes.

The Uluguru Mountains are Morogoro's real draw. The range rises abruptly south of town, catching Indian Ocean moisture and holding forest, farms, waterfalls, and Luguru villages on steep green slopes. It is part of the Eastern Arc chain, one of East Africa's important biodiversity zones.

Most visitors go with a local guide for day walks to viewpoints, waterfalls, or ridge villages. The trails are humid, steep in places, and much more rewarding than Morogoro's transit-town reputation suggests.
