The hike to the top takes about three hours from the village of Nyogbo at the base. The route climbs through coffee plantations, banana groves, and forest, passing several small villages where palm wine is sold from gourds at the roadside. The summit itself has a fenced communications compound and a viewpoint that on a clear day takes in Lake Volta in Ghana.
Hire a guide in Nyogbo or in Kpalimé — they will explain what is growing where and which villages are friendly to a chat. Start early to beat the heat. Bring water and small notes for villagers who stop you on the way.
