Mahdia is the southern terminus of the Sahel Metro, a frequent, cheap electrified train that runs up the coast through Monastir to Sousse. The journey from Sousse takes about ninety minutes and costs less than a sandwich.
The nearest airport is Monastir Habib Bourguiba International (MIR), about forty-five minutes by taxi or a couple of hours by train and louage. Tunis–Carthage is also a feasible entry: three hours by louage or the slower SNCFT train south.
