The town beach begins immediately south of the railway station and runs uninterrupted for several kilometres along the tourist zone. The sand is fine and pale, the water shallow and clear; the slope is gentle enough that you can walk a hundred metres before the water reaches your waist.
Outside the resort hotels there are very few cafes or facilities on the sand itself — bring water. Sea breezes pick up sharply in the afternoon, which is when the wind- and kitesurfers come out.
