Matmata is small. The highlights are the troglodyte houses, the Hotel Sidi Driss (which doubles as a Star Wars set), and a wander or short drive through the surrounding outlying villages. Half a day to a day is enough — but it is worth staying overnight in a troglodyte hotel to feel what the underground rooms are actually like.
