Great Mosque of Moknine

The Great Mosque of Moknine is the historic congregational mosque at the heart of the old town, a whitewashed building typical of the Sahel mosque tradition. Dating in its current form from the medieval period, with later restorations, it forms the architectural centre of the medina alongside the covered market.

Non-Muslim visitors cannot enter the mosque, but the exterior and the surrounding medina streets are worth a short walk. The old town centre preserves a traditional urban fabric of narrow lanes, whitewashed houses, and small artisan workshops — quieter and less touristed than the medinas of Sousse or Monastir.
