The palm groves below Tamerza are the working heart of the oasis. Date palms shade small plots, irrigation channels carry spring water through the village edge, and the greenery makes a hard line against the bare slopes behind it. It is not manicured; that is what makes it interesting.
If you have time, walk the lanes around the groves rather than only stopping at the waterfall. You see how narrow the margin is between cultivated oasis and desert, and how much labour goes into keeping water moving through the right channels. The palms also give the best shade in town, which is no small thing in summer.
