The UNESCO-listed old city is a maze of narrow alleys, covered souks, mosques, and madrasas. The tourist shops cluster around the main thoroughfares, but wander deeper and you will find quieter streets with workshops, bakeries, and neighbourhood cafes. Expect persistent shopkeepers near the entrances, but the atmosphere further in is genuinely welcoming.
