Roman Baths

A small bath complex at the edge of the residential quarter, with the standard sequence of frigidarium, tepidarium and caldarium still legible in the floor plan. The hypocaust — the under-floor heating system — is partially exposed in one room: short brick pilae that once held up the floor, with the spaces between them where hot air circulated.

The baths are modest by the standards of larger Roman cities, but they are a useful illustration of how the technology worked. There are also fragments of mosaic on the floor of the cold-water room, with simple geometric patterns.
