Mosque of the Hair of the Prophet (Jame Mui Mobarak)

Near the old Kabul Bazaar stands the Jame Mui Mobarak — the Mosque of the Hair of the Prophet — which claims to house a hair from the beard of Muhammad. Like the Khirqa Sharif, it is a pilgrimage destination of considerable importance in the Pashtun belt. The mosque itself is a functioning place of worship; non-Muslim visitors should observe the conventions of the area.

The location near the bazaar makes it possible to see the mosque's exterior while exploring the old trading district. The neighbourhood around the bazaar retains the character of a traditional Afghan trading town, with narrow lanes, metalwork shops, carpet dealers, and dried-fruit sellers that have operated in more or less the same way for centuries.
