Maymana Airport (IATA: MMZ) sits a couple of kilometres northwest of the city centre. It is a small single-runway field that has historically handled domestic flights to Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, mostly on Afghan operators with limited and changeable schedules. Through the 2000s and 2010s it was also a hub for the Norwegian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team, whose helicopters and transport aircraft were a regular sight overhead.
For most of the post-2021 period, scheduled commercial flights to Maimana have been intermittent at best. When they run, the short hop into the city is by far the easiest way in or out — the alternative is a long, sometimes hazardous road journey through Faryab and into Balkh Province. Travellers should not assume any service is operating without checking close to the date.
