Bahrain Financial Harbour

Ambitious waterfront development with striking twin towers on Manama's northern shore

The Bahrain Financial Harbour is a large waterfront commercial complex on the northern edge of Manama, built on reclaimed land in the 2000s. The development centres on two 53-floor towers — slightly taller than the nearby Bahrain World Trade Center — surrounded by lower ancillary buildings arranged around a harbour basin. The towers have a distinctive profile: they taper and curve inward as they rise, with facades designed to reference the sail and hull shapes of traditional dhows. Whether this conceit reads from street level is debatable, but as Gulf commercial architecture goes the complex is more considered than most.

The public promenade along the harbour basin is the most useful part of the development for visitors. It is an easy place for an evening walk — sheltered from traffic, with views across the water toward the causeway and the floodlit towers above. The retail and dining options at ground level are standard international fare. The towers themselves are closed to non-tenants but are visible from throughout northern Manama and serve as a useful compass point when navigating the city. The complex is roughly a 15-minute walk west along the waterfront from the Diplomatic Area.
