Bou Sra Waterfall

Bou Sra Waterfall is the most impressive waterfall in Mondulkiri Province, located about 40 kilometres southeast of Sen Monorom on the road toward the Vietnamese border. The falls drop in two stages: an upper cascade about 10 metres high and 15 metres wide, and a lower cascade of 20 metres into a forested gorge. The pool at the bottom is accessible via a staircase and suitable for swimming when water levels are moderate.

The standard approach is a day trip from Sen Monorom, typically stopping at a pepper and coffee plantation along the way — Mondulkiri is one of Cambodia's better pepper-growing regions and plantation visits combine a tasting with a short explanation of how Cambodian pepper differs from Vietnamese. The waterfall is at its most dramatic in the wet season (June–November) when flow is highest; in the dry season it remains impressive but thinner.

A story
Bou Sra is named after an ancient Bunong legend about a couple who leaped from the top of the falls rather than be separated. The upper cascade is modest in height but considerable in width; the lower cascade drops 20 metres into a deep gorge pool accessible by a staircase. Swimming in the pool at the bottom is possible and popular, though reaching it requires descending about 100 steps on a slippery staircase. The combination of scale, forest setting, and the legend makes it one of the more memorable waterfalls in Cambodia.
