Cambodia's largest mosque, in the historically Cham Muslim neighbourhood of Boeung Kak. The current building dates from 2014 and replaced an older mosque on the same site, paid for by the Emirati Al Serkal family. The architecture is more Gulf than Khmer — twin minarets, a wide marble courtyard, a cool central prayer hall covered by a single dome.
The mosque can be visited outside prayer times; cover heads and remove shoes. The surrounding neighbourhood is the easiest place in Phnom Penh to find Cham Muslim food — beef noodles, halal grilled fish, and Cambodian-style curries cooked without pork.
