Freedom Park

The city's designated assembly point for political demonstrations

A small grassy square near Wat Phnom, designated by the government in 2010 as Cambodia's only legal protest venue. Opposition rallies, garment worker demonstrations and land rights protests have all happened here — with varying degrees of tolerance from the authorities.

There is little to see structurally — it is mostly grass with a few palm trees — but the park's symbolic weight is significant. The neighbouring streets contain several of the city's better second-hand bookshops.
