Romdeng is part of the Mith Samlanh / Friends-International training programme, which puts young Cambodians from difficult backgrounds through hospitality apprenticeships. The restaurant itself is a graceful colonial villa on Street 174 with a small swimming pool in the garden — diners are welcome to swim before or after eating.
The menu is unapologetically Cambodian — fish amok, beef saraman, prahok dip, and (if you are brave) the tarantulas the kitchen made famous. Service can be unhurried as it is part of training. Cocktails are excellent. Profits fund the wider Friends programme.
