A long, narrow island in the Mekong about 15 km upstream from Phnom Penh, reached by a small car ferry from the eastern bank of the river. Koh Dach has been a centre of Cambodian silk weaving for generations, and many family compounds still operate looms in their open-sided ground floors — visitors are welcome to watch and buy directly.
The island is also a pleasant escape from the city. The roads are flat, traffic-free and shaded, making it ideal for a half-day bike ride past stilt houses, rice paddies and small Buddhist temples. Several operators in Phnom Penh organise guided bicycle tours; doing it independently is also straightforward.
