The Qingyang Municipal Museum covers the region's history from the neolithic period through to the twentieth century, with the strongest material coming from the Yangshao and Zhou periods. The painted pottery collection is good, and the bronzeware section includes pieces that reflect the frontier character of this part of Gansu — objects that show influences from both the Central Plains and the steppe cultures to the north.
The folk art section, covering the region's renowned paper-cutting and embroidery traditions, is the most distinctive aspect of the collection. Qingyang paper-cutting has been inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list, and the museum displays examples of historical and contemporary work. The nearby markets in the old city sell contemporary work if you want to buy. Admission is free.
