The Lin Zexu Memorial Museum in Humen is Dongguan's most important historical stop. It stands near the place where Lin Zexu ordered the destruction of seized opium in 1839, an act that became one of the sparks of the First Opium War.
The exhibits lean patriotic, but the story is strong enough to cut through the presentation: opium, trade imbalance, imperial pressure, and the beginning of a century of humiliations for Qing China. Pair it with Weiyuan Fort rather than treating it as a quick museum stop.
