Lovers' Road is the coastal promenade that defines the character of Zhuhai's waterfront — a broad walkway extending for several kilometres along the eastern shore, with the sea to one side and gardens and low-rise buildings to the other. The views across to the Macau skyline are the best available from anywhere on the Chinese side: the casino towers of Cotai visible in the distance, with fishing boats working the straits in between.
The promenade is designed for walking, cycling, and sitting on the seawall watching the traffic on the Pearl River Estuary. In the evenings, it fills with families, couples, and groups of elderly residents doing tai chi or playing erhu. The Fisher Girl statue at the southern end is obligatory. At the northern end, the old Xiangzhou fishing harbour retains some working-port character among the restaurants. The full promenade is about eight kilometres; the central section between the Fisher Girl and the Grand Hotel is the most pleasant.
