The beach itself is a gently curving 2.8-kilometre arc of white sand backed by coconut palms and low-rise resorts. The water is warm year-round, clearest from October through April, and shallow enough for non-swimmers to wade well out. Lifeguards patrol the central stretch in season; red flags go up reliably when the surf turns up, which it does occasionally in typhoon shoulder months.
Umbrella-and-lounger rentals run from about 50 yuan for a half-day on the public end, more in front of the big hotels. Vendors walk the sand offering fruit, beer, henna tattoos, and quick massages. Jet skis, banana boats, and parasailing operators set up on the western end. The eastern end, closer to Luhuitou, stays quieter and is the place to read a book.
