The harbour at the base of Luhuitou is a genuine working fishing port — wooden boats moored along the quays in their hundreds, nets drying on the concrete, and the morning return of the night fleet a small spectacle. The boats supply much of the seafood that ends up in Sanya's restaurants, and the quayside seafood market is where the best of the catch is auctioned at dawn.
Stop for a meal at one of the simple restaurants along the harbour road — the order is to point at what you want from the tanks and the kitchen does the rest. Prices are markedly lower than in central Sanya for the same fish.
