Tangwanghe National Forest Park, about 130 kilometres northeast of Yichun city, is a well-preserved section of the Lesser Khingan Range with old-growth Korean pine, spruce, and fir forest. The park has hiking trails, a scenic river valley, and the kind of undisturbed boreal forest ecology that is increasingly rare in this part of China. The Tangwang River runs through the park and the valley it has cut through the hills gives excellent walking terrain.
The park is less visited than the forest areas immediately around Yichun city, which is its main advantage. Wildlife in the Xiaoxing'anling includes Amur tiger (very rarely seen), brown bear, wild boar, and a range of boreal birds. Day hikes through the river valley are the standard activity, and the park has basic visitor facilities. Getting here from Yichun requires a bus or private vehicle; the journey takes roughly two hours.
