Yaoshan, also called Mount Yao, is the main mountain escape in the Pingdingshan area. The scenery is classic Funiu range country: wooded ridges, rock outcrops, steep stair paths, and broad views when the haze lifts. Cable cars reduce the climb, but you still need decent shoes if you want to cover more than the easiest viewpoints.
It is best treated as a day trip rather than an add-on. Start early, especially in summer, and avoid national holidays unless you are prepared for queues on the cable car and crowded summit paths.
