Hengyang is exceptionally well connected by rail. The city has two main stations: Hengyang East (for high-speed trains) and Hengyang Station (for conventional rail). High-speed trains from Changsha take about 35 minutes; from Guangzhou, under two hours. The journey from Wuhan takes roughly 90 minutes. The railway makes Hengyang easy to include in any Hunan itinerary without needing to fly.
Hengyang Bajialing Airport, east of the city centre, handles a handful of domestic routes. For most travellers the train is faster and more convenient. Buses connect Hengyang to surrounding towns including the gateway town of Nanyue for Mount Heng, about 45 minutes away.
