Lianyungang has an airport (Lianyungang Bait塔 Airport, IATA: LYG) with domestic services to major cities. Rail connections have improved significantly with high-speed services linking the city into the national network, though the journey to Nanjing takes around three hours. Xuzhou, roughly two hours by rail, is the most practical base for combining Lianyungang with other northern Jiangsu destinations.
The city's port designation as the eastern terminus of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge — the overland rail corridor to Europe via Central Asia — gives it a strategic importance that is not reflected in its tourist infrastructure, but means transport links continue to improve.
