Yanghe Distillery Cultural Tourism Zone

Yanghe Daqu is one of the top three best-selling baijiu brands in China and one of the oldest distilleries in the country, with production records stretching back to the Tang Dynasty. The Cultural Tourism Zone covers over 100 acres of the Yanghe distillery complex in the Yanghe New District, and the visitor experience is genuinely industrial: you walk through active brewing workshops, see the mud fermentation cellars up close, and get a visceral sense of the scale and smell of large-scale baijiu production.

The underground cellars — some dating from the Ming and Qing periods — are the highlight: vaulted brick chambers containing enormous ceramic jars of aging spirit, the air saturated with the compound fermentation aromas that baijiu drinkers either love immediately or need time to appreciate. A tasting session is included in most tours. The aroma of fermenting sorghum carries for some distance around the district; residents of certain neighbourhoods live with it year-round. Entry includes access to the Beauty Spring garden and the production areas.

A story
Yanghe Daqu baijiu is made using the sauce-fragrance (酱香) style — a long fermentation process using sorghum, wheat, and rice in underground mud cellars, with a production cycle that takes years from grain to bottle. The underground wine cellars at the Yanghe distillery are classified as a national key cultural relic protection unit, which makes this the only active distillery in China where the production infrastructure is simultaneously a protected historical monument.
