Sailing and Water Sports

Rizhao's self-designation as the Water Sports Capital of China is backed by genuine infrastructure: multiple beach zones along the city's coastline have been developed with equipment rental, instruction, and competition facilities for sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and kayaking. The bay geometry and consistent summer southerly winds create conditions that are genuinely good for small-boat work, and the city has hosted national and international sailing events.

The best area for casual participation is around the Sun City Beach Zone, where outfitters offer rental equipment and short instruction sessions. Qualified sailing courses are available at several clubs, and experienced sailors can arrange longer charter sessions. The season runs from May through October; July and August are peak but also the most crowded. For non-participants, the spectacle of dozens of colored sails on the water on a summer afternoon is a decent attraction in itself.
