Most of Yunnan's headline destinations are too far for a true day trip but easy as overnight or two-night excursions from Kunming. Dali is two hours by HSR; Lijiang about three. The Stone Forest, Jiuxiang caves, and Anning Hot Springs are all easy half- or full-day round trips from the city. The Dongchuan Red Land deserves an overnight; the Bamboo and Golden temples are half-day outings.
